Imperialism Critique

Cynthia Enloe reads the Iraq War through eight Iraqi and American women, showing how gender shapes security, work, military service, and care - and why its costs continue after combat fades from view.

This collection examines how the United States legitimates war through “women’s liberation” and connects antiracist feminism to anti-imperialist organizing.

Cynthia Enloe turns ‘Where are the women, and who benefits when they are ignored?’ into a method for tracing global power through sneaker factories, militaries, nationalist war, and postwar institutions.
