Conceptualising Brahmanical Patriarchy in Early India: Gender, Caste, Class and State
Abstract The essay analyzes early Indian historical materials to show how caste, gender, class, and state power are linked. It argues that upper-caste reproduction depends on regulating women's sexuality and marriage boundaries, making Brahmanical patriarchy a central mechanism of caste hierarchy.
