Reconceiving Citizenship: The Challenge of Mothers as Political Activists
Abstract This article examines how mothers organizing as political activists around childbirth and maternity care issues challenge traditional liberal conceptions of citizenship. Drawing on Australian maternity reform movements, Reiger argues that maternal activism reconceives citizenship to include embodied experience, care relations, and community participation, offering a feminist alternative to individualistic models of political engagement.
