Abstract This article offers a sociological and feminist critique of evolutionary psychology's claims about gender and sexuality. Rees analyzes how the popular belief that 'men are polygamous, women are monogamous' is packaged as scientific fact by evolutionary psychology, and how this scientific authority is used to legitimate existing gender inequalities. The article reveals methodological problems, circular reasoning, and political ideology in evolutionary psychology narratives, providing an important case study for feminist science critique.
