The Feminist Standpoint: Developing the Ground for a Specifically Feminist Historical Materialism
Abstract Hartsock proposes a feminist historical materialism grounded in women's lived experiences, especially those shaped by domestic labor and the sexual division of labor. Drawing on Marxian analysis, she argues that women’s social position enables a critical standpoint that reveals contradictions in dominant epistemologies. The chapter lays the groundwork for feminist standpoint theory and calls for a reorientation of knowledge production toward marginalized perspectives.
